Knowing the difference between paid search and display advertsing can make all the difference in your digital marketing success.
What is Paid Search?
Paid Search is considered a “pull” form of advertising, meaning that we pull buyers in from their active searches.
What is Display Advertising?
Display advertising is considered a “push” form of digital advertising, meaning we “push” out brand display ads across the Google Network, according to specific targets, and look to entice people who may not know about your brand to engage.
For example, let’s say I own a car detailing company, and I am advertising to potential markets.
If I use Paid Search, that means when someone searches the Internet for a car detailing company, my business will be advertised.
If I use Display advertising, that means my business will be advertised when someone has shown an interest for something related to my business such as “buying a used car” or “car mats,” or even car-centric movies within a certain target audience.
The goal with Display advertising is to appeal to people who aren’t actively searching for your business, while the goal with Paid Search advertising is to market yourself to someone looking for your specific type of business.
