Changes in Google’s Search Engine Results
Maximum would like to make all our clients aware that on February 19, 2016; Google made a change to their search results pages on desktop. The search engine will no longer show text ads in the right sidebar. Instead, as many as four text ads will display above the organic listings, and three text ads will show at the bottom of the page. All of these changes pertain to the desktop search results on Google.com and Google search partners and are rolling out permanently worldwide. Essentially this change will make desktop searching feel and look similarly to mobile searches.
Ads will not appear on the right side of desktop search results, with two exceptions:
1.Product Listing Ad (PLA) boxes, which show either above or to the right of search results
2.Ads in the Knowledge Panel
To clarify, the elimination of right-side ads impacts all desktop searches worldwide; the addition of the fourth ad above search results will happen for “highly commercial queries.” This would involve searches like “Hotels in New York City” or “Car Insurance” and the like.
How does this affect MXM Clients?
It’s too soon to make a final determination, but the industry is predicting that the impact of fewer ads on the search page will lead to higher prices due to supply and demand.
MXM is already seeing the price for certain keywords increase, as an example – at the end of January 2016, a term like “Real Estate” was $3.75 per click for a first-page result; today the term is bidding at $11.90. Please be assured we are monitoring and bidding on keywords on a daily basis to ensure we are making the best and smartest decisions on your behalf
